What a week

It has been such a hot week with temperatures in the high 20’s. Haven’t done any woodworking yet but I still have two days. I did get around to restoring a steel backed saw which I filed rip and got for the bargain price of $1.

An overnight vinegar bath made easy work of rust removal.

I think tonight I will continue on the tool cabinet build. I’ve been using the heat as an excuse to put it off. I guess I could say I was quite worn out as well, I came off a 12night shift out of town to do 2 more days at home helping a friend with his drilling for telecommunications.

 I love this work.

I’ll post any progress I make on my tool cabinet as soon as its completed. I plan to get the middle shelf which is through tenoned and cut rebates on the back to receive what I have now decided will be 1/2″ plywood. Considered going solid wood throughout but I think it will be more trouble than it’s worth considering it measures 29″ x 42″.

Now it’s back to the shop to clear the bench

    1. I’ve seen it on YouTube videos so I thought I’d give it a shot. It really does work well. I used straight white vinegar from the grocery store and let it sit overnight about 8hrs and the rust came off very easily showing a few badly pitted areas but still I went ahead. Found the saw to be rather heavy but fully functional.

      1. I hope it works out for you. I was walking by the vinegar on a grocery run and I thought I’d grab a jug and give it a try. Let me know how it works out for you.
